Options Screen

The option screen allows you to specify some additional settings you may find useful and it also allows you to enable the search feature.

  1. Default destination folder: This is the default download location when SpiderMonki starts. Unless otherwise specified, all files will be saved here.

  2. Default queue file folder: This is the default location where SpiderMonki will save queue.spi files.

  3. Ignore files that are smaller than the sizes indicated below: Indicate the minimum size that is required for SpiderMonki to download a file. If SpiderMonki cannot determine the file size before downloading the file, the file will be downloaded anyway.

  4. Automatically load list of blocks sites (blocked.lst): When checked, SpiderMonki will automatically load the blocked.lst file when SpiderMonki starts. The blocked.list file is editable with Notepad or WordPad and is located in the SpiderMonki program folder. (In my case, it would be in the C:\Program Files\SpiderMonki folder) SpiderMonki will ignore any URL that matches the entire pattern of characters you enter. Enter a unique pattern on each line. Be sure to remove the 'XYZBlockMe.net' entry if you add any entries.

My blocked.list file looks like this:

    www.google.com/univ
    www.google.com/ads
    www.google.com/services
    +site
    filter=0
    artistdirect.com
    iuma.com
    doubleclick.net

  5. Download limit: SpiderMonki will stop downloading files after it has downloaded the amount specified. This excludes parsed files that are deleted.

  6. Search engine query strings: There are any number of search engines you can use with SpiderMonki. In order to enable the search feature, you need to enter a search engine's query string.

Open your Web browser and go to the search engine of your choice. Next, search for your name. When the results display, take a look at the URL in your browser. It should look something like this:

    http://www.mysearchengine.com/search.asp?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=alpha+monki

Now copy everything to the left of your name and paste it in the first box edit box, under the words Search Engine Query Strings, so that it looks like this:

    http://www.mysearchengine.com/search.asp?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=keyword+keyword

Leave the box on the right blank side blank. (You may need it someday. Who knows?)

Using the search engine feature is covered on page 16.

  7. Rename file extensions that SpiderMonki has not been configured to download: SpiderMonki will rename any file with an extension it does not recognize. (i.e. setup.exe to setup~exe).
